Mount Merapi

The recent Mount Merapi eruption captured my attention. I recalled back my previous family trip to Yogyarkarta in 2008.

The places that I've visited has been damaged by the eruption. As I saw the picture of the Mount Merapi eruption, I remembered that I've stepped at the foot of Mount Merapi. Farming was one of the main occupation. I recalled how fertile the soil was that the vegetables planted were all in huge sizes.

I've also visited the volcanic craters. It smelled of sulphur. I can see that it is still active and boiling. Although the craters are boiling but the I was surprised that the environment was very cold and we were all shivering.

Borobudur had reopened to the visitors as it was previously covered with ashes. Yes, I was there and was facinated on the wonders of the temple.

I felt sad that the death toll has kept increasing.  I wonder what had happened to the tour guide that we engaged for our trip. I hope and pray that he and his family are safe.
