Awesome Weekend

I celebrated Dad’s birthday last weekend. My dear daddy turned 68 this year.

Initially, I’ve planned to take leave on Monday, 4th May 2009 to celebrate Daddy’s birthday since it’s the actual day. Last minute, William didn’t manage to be on leaved as his application was rejected. Prior to this plan, my Wed Grp of friends planned to go KT. I’m that type of person that will follow the herd. I almost cancelled my whole plan. Well, I would say I made the right choice to be with family, especially to be with Dad. I had a fabulous series of great events.

Daddy’s Cooking
This is my Daddy. He cooks lots of nice dishes when William & I are back at home. I just love Dad’s cooking more and more. Just can’t get enough of it! I didn’t really appreciate his cooking previously though I knew darn well that he stands long hours in the kitchen just to prepare me a meal. I learnt my lesson well when I left home to further my study. Yes. Nothing beats the comfort of your home. It was like an awakening. I realized that Dad is a great cook and he is fabulous! Simple yet it’s stomach satisfying.

Food Searching Expedition
Thanks to William’s suggestion, we headed down to Muar for foodies. I think it’s the first crazy idea with family. I had tones of crazy times with friends, but this time, I did it with family. All the way down to Muar for Wan Tan Mee, Otak-Otak, Sate & Fried Oyster!

Dad’s Birthday Eve

It was Sunday that we had a small family celebration because William will be going back to KL. Immediately after Sunday mass, Willie and I got Dad a cake. Dad was surprised. We sang him birthday song and took family pictures. I just want to capture every moment with Dad because these will be the pictures that will constantly remind me of those memorable events that has taken place. William wanted to bring Dad for buffet dinner but the hotel that we chose do not have buffet dinner on Sunday. Dad surprised me with his suggestion that he wanted to have Korean food for dinner. It’s Dad’s first time to try Korean food and he enjoyed himself. Bingo!

Happy Birthday Daddy
Dad started off his day with bowling session. Yes. Bowling and he loves it. He has his bowling session with church friends, the senior citizens. 3 times a week, each time 4 games. I joined them this time and it was fun to see their reactions, not forgetting the laughter and jokes.

Dad & I teamed up. I’ve forgotten when is the last time I played and my
skill dropped drastically. Dad didn’t win because most of the balls that I’ve thrown in the 4th game went to North pole (this was the remark I got from Dad’s friends). My lucky number 9 ball didn't turns out to be that lucky after all.
After getting some nyonya cakes from Baba Charlie with Dad for tonight’s rosary session, I went to collect Rum Raisin birthday cake from Nadeje. The cake was so big that I just can’t hide and Dad greeted me at the gate when I reached home. He asked me what was that and I pretended that I didn’t hear him. Then came dinner time and he told me that both of us can share a pack of mee as we shall have cake tonight. It was playing in my mind, “Gosh, he really knows there’ll be a cake!”. Again I pretended that I don’t understand him. “What cake?” I asked and his replied was “nyonya cakes that we bought in the afternoon”. So I thought I was safe. After the rosary ended, I asked Dad whether he knows that I’ve gotten him a cake. Guess what.. He said he knew it the moment I walked into the house with a big box. I was playing in my head again on the conversations that I had with Dad. Cool Daddy. He played along with me with his innocent answers.

After the rosary ended, I took out the fully lighted birthday cake while birthday song were sang. I was very surprised to see another cake came forth. It was so sweet to have Aunty Rosaline to surprise Dad with a cake. So Dad has 2 cakes for the night! I soon found out that Dad announced his birthday in the morning after church morning mass at the coffee shop when he bought them drinks. Dad birthday ended at the peak with 2 cakes. In total, he had 3 cakes for this year’s celebration.

I recalled back dad’s birthday celebrations for the past years. It’s a little sad that I couldn’t remember much how I’ve celebrated with him and there were no photos to remind me of it. I can only recall the cards that William & I made for him. William will be the one to design, cut or draw out the card and I will be the one to write down words from my bottom of my heart. So that’s how I celebrated dad’s birthday.

Looking back, I really took dad for granted. I realized that I’ve not cherish him fully, appreciate him for the many sacrifices he made for me & to love him more. Many times I would just put family aside and give way to my circle of friends. But this is the first place that I was born into, the family that has raised me up to be who I am today. I’m not a perfect person but I’m proud with the good values that Mum & Dad has taught me. (Gosh, I miss Mum dearly now).

I hope William & I gave Daddy a memorable celebration. The bottom line is that, I just want him to be happy. Words just can’t explain how much you mean to me. I love you and you will always be my dear Daddy.
